High and Dry

High and Dry

This weekend was marked by heavy cloud cover in our area which made for some great daytime shooting. What made it better, for me anyway, was the high winds that set in on Sunday afternoon. After spending the morning shooting streams in the mountains I decided to close out the day with some long exposure shooting by the lake. I’ve had a shot like this in mind since I bought my filter kit several months ago but the right circumstances of...

Multiplicity

Over the weekend I went back to a local river just looking for smaller rapids to shoot. There are plenty of rapids along this river but during the summer and fall many of them can’t be seen easily because of the amount of foliage growing over the river. Now that the majority of the growth has fallen they are much simpler targets to shoot. This shot was taken from the roadside looking directly down onto the river just before it turns...

I tried a few different compositions of this shot, with and without the trees in the foreground, but decided that I actually liked how the trees...

Belly of the Snake

Belly of the Snake

There are some advantages to the sun going down so much earlier in the evening, it provides more opportunities to get in long exposures. This is an image of South Holston Lake with 421 Bridge looming overhead taken around 6:30pm. During the summer months this shot is not possible because the water level is so high there is no place to setup. Highway 421 is locally known as The Snake because of its continuous curves as it crosses Holston...
