Today’s image is one of the last shots I was able to shoot on a quick weekend trip to Damascus, Virginia a few Sundays ago. All that remains of the beautiful colors of fall is the leaf litter along the banks of the river but the vibrant greens of the mountain laurel persist. This is a different perspective on the same structure that I posted in Overflow a few days ago. With a little trial and error I was finally able to line up the direction of the clouds with the angle of the pylon. Other than a massive amount of spot removal (the wind was blowing dust everywhere) processing was pretty straightforward, after a few adjustments in Lightroom I passed the frame through Topaz Black and White Effects then Denoise....

This is an image that I shot a few weekends ago at South Holston Lake. The tower is actually a ‘head-on’ view of one of the enormous pylons that surround the overflow intake adjoining South Holston Dam. The entire structure is massive and is surrounded by a 10-foot fence topped with barbed wire and signs warning of a 250-foot drop to the bottom.
