Home at last!

I’ve had a very busy weekend! Since we had almost a foot of snow on the ground (again!) and absolutely bone-chilling temperatures getting outside for even a few photos was out of the question. So I began establishing my new home-on-the-net!

I’ve moved away from GoDaddy’s free hosting and Google’s Blogspot to JustHost.com and setup the permanent locations for CURTFLEENOR.COM. The contents for now consist primarily of a photo gallery and a blog site. The gallery is powered by Gallery v2.3 and the blog by WordPress v2.9.1.

While I do have my work available for purchase online at Red Bubble, I have not yet to set to work on integrating a shopping cart into my site. First things first!

I spent the majority of the weekend learning and configuring Gallery – it’s a beast! It’s not that it is hard to learn it’s just packed with customization optoins. I’ve settled on a theme from Pedro Gilberto called PGTheme because of it’s minimalistic design and medium grey background that is perfect for viewing photos on an LCD. It has a few quirks that I have noticed now that I have had time to browse each album and photo individually and I still have some options that incorrect but I’ll get it worked out.

Today I installed and began configuring WordPress – very easy! Installation (and the automatic upgrade to v2.9.1) were a snap.  JustHost.com has Fantastico integrated into CPanel which is about as simple as you can get.  WordPress provided instant import of the few posts I had at Blogspot with the push of a button. Final theme selection, customization, mobile posting, search-engine optimization and RSS feed setup are next on the list.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Basic application installations are complete and the mass of main site customization is done, I just need to find a blog theme that compliments my Gallery theme. Who knows, I may opt to use WordPress for the whole thing!
