This is an image that I shot a few weekends ago at South Holston Lake. The tower is actually a ‘head-on’ view of one of the enormous pylons that surround the overflow intake adjoining South Holston Dam. The entire structure is massive and is surrounded by a 10-foot fence topped with barbed wire and signs warning of a 250-foot drop to the bottom. There are some advantages to the sun going down so much earlier in the evening, it provides more opportunities to get in long exposures. This is an image of South Holston Lake with 421 Bridge looming overhead taken around 6:30pm. The Linn Cove Viaduct is one of the man-made wonders of the southeast United States. The viaduct carries the Blue Ridge Parkway across the boulder fields of Grandfather Mountain, North Carolina and was the last portion of the parkway to be completed.
