Brick and mortar give way to time and pressure in this Abingdon, Virginia cemetery.
The wall seen here surrounds a family cemetery plot but time and the elements have begun to take their toll. Nearly 100 years of hot summers and freezing winters have caused the mortar to expand and crack until the brickwork is collapsing. It appears that attempts to repair the wall have been made over the years but time is simply an adversary that cannot be defeated.
The image was processed in Lightroom 3 with tone mapping performed in Photomatix 4.
