Weather Vane - Curt Fleenor Photography

This weekend proved to be pretty fruitless for me as far as shooting goes. The weather was less than cooperative and I just wasn’t feeling very creative stuck in the house. Sunday afternoon things started looking a little better and I took the opportunity to walk through downtown Abingdon, something I don’t do as often as I should. There were a few high level clouds still blowing across the skies above town so I setup on the sidewalk in front of the county courthouse to catch some long exposures.

I’m not completely sold on the overall composition of this particular shot but I did like the movement in the clouds. I’ll definitely be getting into town more often to work out just the right spots to highlight the local architecture.

Gear: Canon 60D, Canon EF-S 18-135mm

Settings: 35mm, ISO100, f/22, 10 seconds

Processing: Adobe Lightroom 3, Adobe Photoshop CS5, OnOne PhotoTools 2.6

  1. I love the black and white and the smoothness of the clouds from the long exposure. I think you’ve done a really nice job with the black and white conversion. I don’t have any real problems with the composition, I think it works well.

  2. I think the comp works and the soft white cloud nicely frames the weather vane.
