1962 Ford Thunderbird
There were so many wonderful shots to be had in the junk yard that we visited Saturday that I’m actually having a hard time choosing the images to post! Today’s image is of what I think is a 1962 Ford Thunderbird. The iconic “Thunderbird” hood emblem gives away that much but the year was a little more difficult to identify. I knew what the 1950′s Thunderbird looked like (come on … who hasn’t seen American Graffiti!) and I knew what the late 1970′s models looked like so that narrowed the Google searches down to about a fifteen year period.
Throughout the day, I tried to keep a wide angle and get as close as possible to accentuate the size of the features on these cars and to add a bit of distortion. The cars were packed so tightly that I was also trying to keep the focus on the car I was shooting by having the aperture wide open to help create a shallow depth of field. By setting up fairly close to the Thunderbird I hope I created just enough distortion to draw attention the large hood that was found on most cars of the era.
