Fire On The Mountain

Fire on the Mountain - Curt Fleenor Photography

After grabbing the brackets for yesterday’s image, we decided to move up to the Weir Dams to see how thick the fog was there. The scene that I found could not have been better! The dams were operating, there was a thick blanket of fog over the upper river and the sunset was reflecting in the billowing clouds beyond the main dam.

Composing this was a really simple as the shot basic framed itself all I did was setup, point and shoot! I did catch the scene from 2 or 3 different vantage points but this is my favorite. By the time we finished at this spot and made it to the top of the dam, the sun had set and the colors had faded away but these two images more than make up for it!

While editing this image I was trying to think of a fitting title when Marshal Tucker’s “Fire On The Mountain” popped into my head and seemed to fit perfectly. As with Foggy Mountain Sunset, I applied some masking in Elements and some brush work in Lightroom before moving into Topaz to bring on the pop.

Camera settings: Canon 60D, Canon EF-S 18-135mm Lens, 22mm, ISO100, f/8, 9-brackets

Processing: Adobe Lightroom 3, Photomatix Pro, Photoshop Elements
