Path to the Sky
Many of the less difficult trails crossing Grayson Highlands have been built up with stone steps to help less experienced hikers climb the steep grades. These steps can also come in handy for more experienced hikers when making their way back down the trails! This is one set of these steps along the trail leading to Pinnacle Overlook. While I had the trail basically all to myself Saturday evening, I decided to take advantage of the lack of visitors and grab the quintessential shot of a trail leading over a distant hill.
It was fairly bright and easy to see on our way up the path to the overlook but coming down was a completely different story! By 9pm the tree cover made it pretty dark and most of our group had not thought to bring flashlights with them. This made our short hike back to the visitor’s center very slow going but everyone made it back none the worse for wear.

Just beautiful Curt! Love this in HDR!
Nobody, but nobody captures shades of green like you do! Love how you lead us through the forest of dappled light and texture.

Very nice image, Curt.
I can imagine it getting pretty dark quickly which makes the return trip challenging.
Nice composition, leading us right up the path.
Nice one Curt. The trail doesn’t look too steep but I am sure looks are deceiving.
A Beautiful Image to start my Day!! Thanks Curt!!
