Rails To Trails
Many states have “Rails to Trails” programs that take unused stretches of rail road and convert them to trails for hiking and biking. Locally, the Virginia Creeper Trail is the best known and most successful example of this program. There are several bridges along the Creeper but few use the original structure left by the rail road, most had to be dismantled and completely replaced with new constructions. This is one of those few remaining original bridges.

This is a great image Curt. We have a rails to trails path here locally, “The Hiawatha” and it is a beautiful drive. I regularly bike that trail and I am never without my P&S when I’m there. I suppose that now, I just may have to take a day and go walk it!
