Soco Falls - Curt Fleenor Photography

Since the last day of my outing fell on a Monday there was very little tourist traffic so I decided to take advantage of this and make a marathon run of as many waterfalls as I could. I started the morning by taking a drive to Soco Falls located on the Cherokee Indian Nation at the southern most end of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. I had seen some impressive photos of this double waterfall online and was hyped to get my chance at them.

There is an observation deck below the roadway that allows you to take in most of the falls. I had read that there was also a small trail leading from the deck to the creek and taking this trail was not really advisable. When I arrived I could see why, it wasn’t so much a trail as a large rope you could use to lower yourself down a muddy bank. I had to do this! Luckily, I keep a pair of work gloves in the car so I pulled them on and down I went. I have to say that the shots were definitely worth it because you can not even see the falls on the left from the viewing deck. Getting back up to the deck was little more complex than going down but it was a great way to start the day.

  3. It always pays to try a new perspective even if to get there (and back again!) takes some effort. You have captured an image that not many other people would have even thought of trying. Nice work.
