Stepping Stones

Today takes us back to Osceola Island at South Holston Dam and the Weir Dams that help add oxygen back to the water as it exits the dam and re-enters the TVA river system. The Weir Dams have huge concrete pylons every few yards that support the walls holding back the water pooled between them. When seen from a certain vantage point they appear to be close enough to allow you to walk across the water.
I shot this in both landscape and portrait formats but chose the portrait framing for this post because I wanted to include both the foreground reflections and the background that was being reflected. The landscape version is more centered on the dams themselves and does not include as much foreground. Of the two, I believe I prefer the landscape version but who can resist reflections!

What an incredible week you’ve had this is my favorite, but those sunsets are right up there. I really like the reflections and symmetry of this one.
Awesome shots! That water is perfect to capture those awesome reflections… Well done Curt!

Very cool shot, the reflection in the water really does create an interesting optical illusion.

Great shot!
What a unique optical illusion. I love the vertical frame; like you, I wouldn’t want to miss the reflection! The rocks keep you anchored, but your eye hops and skips across the pylons. Very cool shot!
