The Edge
One of my many personal goals for this year is to remember to take a look around while out shooting and not overlook the hundreds of possible images that may be right under my feet. Today’s post is one such image that I shot while out with the B+W ND110 filter this weekend.
The shoreline of the lake in this particular spot is littered with rocks ranging in size from very small to enormous. Before packing up for the afternoon I wanted to capture an image that would highlight the contrast between the smoothness of the water and rough texture of the rocks. The B+W filter allowed me to smooth the surface of the water and further accent this contrast.
Gear: Canon EOS 60D, Canon EF-S 18-135mm Lens, B&W ND110 Filter
Settings: ISO100, 18mm, f/8, 62 seconds
Processing: Adobe Lightroom 3, Topaz Black and White Effects

This is fantastic Curt. That smooth long exposed water mixed with the contrasting crisp rocks is awesome. Well done Curt.

Nicely done Curt. The B&W works very well here.

I like the way you have place the divide between the rocks and then water on the diagonal. I think this makes for a much more powerful image. Personally, I would have like to see a little more silkiness in the water to counterbalance the harsh edges of the rocks but considering this is a lake and not the sea, you have done a really good job.

Awesome simplistic shot Curt! Love the smooth water to contrast the rough textures of the rocks.

Great image Curt, looking forward to more ND shots. Also a lesson to be learned by me as well, look about more. I tend to get fixated on the first thing that hits me.

Man, those rocks look so nice. Combined with the water coming in on a diagonal split of the image, this makes for a great shoreline shot.

The different textures are nice, and the composition really brings your focus onto that one rock. Very nice!
