Waypoint KFC - Curt Fleenor Photography

I mentioned earlier in the week that this particular spot on White Top is a very popular place. Combined with it’s close proximity to the road it is one of the best locations around to watch the sun go down. It is so popular that a bench was built facing the west so visitors could have a place to sit while they watch the beautiful sunsets that can be seen from here. The plaque dedicates the bench to the memory of a hiker from Florida.

With the bench being so close to the trail and at the top of the ridge it seemed appropriate to call this a ‘Waypoint’. Believe me, after hiking up this hill you definitely need a place to sit and catch your breath! In a little less than a 1/2 of a mile you climb to nearly 300 feet above the road.

    • Thanks Kristi! It looked really out of place until I realized the direction it was facing. The second night I went back there was actually a couple using it to watch the sunset.

  4. Great scene and awesome photo!
