Drawing You In - Curt Fleenor Photography

Not all mistakes are bad. I had just finished shooting the engine compartment of this vehicle, which was much darker because of the shadow cast by the raised hood, and forgot to reset the ISO to something a bit more reasonable than 640. I almost threw this out during my first round of editing but other than having a little more noise than I would have liked there was really nothing else wrong with it.

The bright, cloud covered sky left the top half of the mirror and the window in the background blown out so I decided to process the it as a high-key color image. Before finishing, I browsed through a few black and white presets and found that I actually liked it much better as a high-key mono. The additional noise from the accidental ISO setting was just enough to mimic a grain effect. So, not all mistakes are bad!

Gear: Canon 60D, Canon EF-S 18-135mm

Settings: 85mm, ISO640, f/8, 1/100

Processing: Adobe Lightroom 3, Adobe Photoshop CS5, OnOne PhotoTools 2.6
