I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! As you can probably tell, I used some of my downtime to update the look of my site. I had been working on theme customization a little at a time during the last few weeks and decided to make the push to production over the weekend. I really like the clean and minimal feel that it has and I hope you enjoy it too. As a starting point, I used a newer theme from Elegant Themes called ‘Evolution’. If you’re viewing from a mobile device you’ll notice that I finally have a working mobile theme in place, I’m using their ‘Handheld’ plugin for mobile integration.
Now on to today’s post…
One of the trinkets that I picked up for myself this holiday season was a Fotodiox Macro Extension Tube set. Needless to say, many small objects around the house had their turn in front of the lens over the last few days! I still have quite a bit more experimenting before I really begin to get the hang of this new toy.
In the meantime, this is one of the more usable shots from my limited playtime! The subject was an eight inch Buddha statue taken using the 7mm extension and a 50mm f/1.8 lens, the zoom effect was added using OnOne PhotoTools.
Since the tube kit is a generic and not the more costly Canon version I have lost the AF control of the lens meaning no auto-focus and no DOF control. I don’t know how much use I’ll get out of this kit in the long run but for less than $12 it is certainly worth having in the bag.
Gear: Canon 60D, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens, Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash
Settings: ISO100, 50mm, 1/200 seconds
Processing: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3, Adobe Photoshop CS5, OnOne PhotoTools 2.6

The site looks great Curt. Great use of the Macro Extension tube. Wonderful shot. I bought a set awhile ago but haven’t used it for some time. I think you’re inspiring me to go out and try again.
