I Pledge Allegiance

A boy sits on his grandfather's shoulders during the opening ceremonies for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series roared into Bristol, Tennessee this past weekend attracting race fans of all ages from all over the country. Part of the opening ceremonies involved a local Marine Corp. unit unfurling a huge American flag while an Army unit commander lead the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. This little guy caught my attention when he popped up above the rest of the crowd on his grandfather’s shoulders. I’m not sure if he was trying to hold his grandfather’s hat over his heart or just holding onto it but it made for a great shot that I’m glad I caught.

Gear: Canon EOS 60D, Canon EF 28-300mm

Software: Adobe Lightroom 3, Adobe Photoshop CS5

Nice catch, Curt. Looks like one of those shots that you can’t think about too much. Just have to grab it before it goes away.

Great shot here, Curt! I like this composition, man. Lots to see beyond the touching moment of the youngster. :-)
