Scattered To The Winds
Sometimes those spur of the moment trips can be the most fun and productive. During our week on the Outer Banks we made one of those trips to Roanoke Island. Before leaving the rental house we did some quick research on the internet but the weather was beginning to turn and we really didn’t expect much. The incoming rain held off much longer than we expected and the cloud cover was a welcome change from the clear skies we saw every other day.
The real hot spot of Roanoke Island is a little village called Manteo. It’s small and a bit tourist oriented but still quiet and welcoming. On the edge of Shallowbag Bay is and the Jule Day Burrus Memorial. The memorial and surrounding park is in honor of Mayor Pro Tem and long time Commissioner Jule Day Burrus.
