Overlook Ahead

Overlook Ahead

In the midst of all the various waterfall and foliage images that I had on my shot list this fall were a few ‘iconic’ Parkway images that I wanted to capture. This was one of them. Much like the familiar mile markers, to me the ‘Overlook Ahead’ signs are one of those little things that come to mind when I think of the Parkway. Gear: Canon 60D, Canon EF-S 18-135mm Lens Settings: ISO100, 85mm, 1/13 second Processing: Adobe...

The Veil

Today we’re going back to a Soco Falls in western North Carolina. These falls were just amazing and I was able to capture some really great images during my visit. Soco is a 30-foot high double waterfall that is breathtaking the first time you see it. This is an image of the leftmost falls which is difficult to see from the observation platform and can only be fully appreciated if you are willing to make your way down the slick bank to...

To me these concrete mile posts are synonymous with the Blue Ridge Parkway because no matter how much the scenery changes they remain constant. This isn’t the only place where you’ll find markers like this but they are one of the first things that come to my mind when I think of the Parkway. Gear: Canon 60D, Canon EF-S 18-135mm,...

Water Slide

Water Slide

Today’s shot is of another unnamed waterfall in the Pisgah National Forest of western North Carolina. This waterfall is located about 50 yards above the falls we saw in the post Wall of Water. The heavily diffused light of late afternoon created the perfect conditions to shoot long exposures. I tried a few different compositions of this shot, with and without the trees in the foreground, but decided that I actually liked how the trees...
