Little Stoney Creek

Little Stoney Creek

Last weekend I had the opportunity to be drive through Hanging Tree Recreation Area in Scott County, Virginia. This area is home to Stoney Creek which has several waterfalls and cascades. I had hoped to be able to shoot the largest of the falls, a 60 foot curtain with a bridge crossing above it, but the only access road had all been closed by the Park Service so I opted to try my luck with the smaller falls. This is one of the many cascades...

Woodland Shelf

Woodland Shelf

While on one of my several hikes over the last few weekends I came across this large shelf lichen growing on the side of a tree. The wind had been blowing quite hard the entire weekend but this was the first day that had seen cloud cover of any kind. I couldn’t help pulling off at a roadside parking area to take a few frames of the clouds...

Rapids at Crabtree Falls

Rapids at Crabtree Falls

Today’s image was taken along the trail leading through the Crabtree Falls area along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I found this small set of rapids upstream from the main falls and decided to spend a few minutes capturing them. There really wasn’t much room to setup so my choices of compositions were pretty limited but I managed to get a few good takeaways. Of those shots this was my favorite. Have a great weekend! Gear: Canon 60D, Canon...
