Cold temperatures have frozen the surface of this mountain stream in Southwest Virginia. Read MoreOne of the many bends in the Virginia Creeper Trail between the Watauga crossing and Alvarado Station. This particular bend is slightly west of the Middle Fork of the Holston River. At the bottom left of the photo is a makeshift bench constructed from 3 large flat rocks - probably an exhausted hiker!
