Through The Looking Grass

Center of a round bail of hay
Sometimes you can find some really nice shots just taking a walk around your own home. I have an acre of unused field that I have cut and bailed a few times a year. So right now I have five of these round bails sitting literally in my back yard. I’ve been waiting for them to dry out and get that dusty look and feel to them so I could start shooting them. After a week of 90° temperatures and very little rain they were definitely ready for their photo-shoot!

They’re not really placed in way that’s compositionally pleasing so I probably won’t get any wide angle shots from them…guess I’ll have to talk to the guy on the tractor about that!!

Gear: Canon EOS 60D, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8

Software: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4

Great composition and different take on a straw bail. And the vignette is perfect. Nice job, Curt.

    Nice shot, Curt.
These bails when seen from a distance, always remind me of shredded wheat (the cereal). :-)

Just goes to show you don’t have to stray far from home to get a great shot. Love this Curt.

I thought this was a bird nest at first. What do you have done with the bails once they dry out?
